About This Work
MEAR ONE has spent his career translating ancient mythology into the language of monetary revolution, and Prophecy of the Phoenix sits squarely in that lineage. The phoenix — the bird that consumes itself in fire only to rise again — recurs across nearly every ancient culture as the symbol of total rebirth from the flames of destruction. MEAR ONE reads Bitcoin as exactly that force: not a new asset but a burning away of false idols and inherited structures of authority, a passage from fear to gnosis. The work premiered at the Bitcoin 2024 art auctions in Nashville — the same conference-floor tradition from which BMAG itself was born — and sold on Scarce City in July 2024 before entering the collection. Where The Magician renders the birth of Bitcoin as alchemy and Hero of the Unknown Face stages its defense in the streets, Prophecy of the Phoenix names the stakes: the old world must burn first. The renewal is the point, not the ashes.
