About This Work
MEAR ONE’s Hero of the Unknown Face is an allegorical masterpiece set in a neon-soaked, cyberpunk reality. At its center stands a Guy Fawkes-masked samurai—a "Hero of the Unknown Face"—who serves as a guardian of truth and a symbol of the anonymous spirit that birthed the Bitcoin movement. With a glowing blade, he deconstructs a multi-headed serpent representing the "nine-headed snake" of systemic corruption, corporate greed, and centralized control. When paired with MEAR ONE’s The Magician, the two works create a powerful narrative of the sovereign individual. While The Magician represents the internal, alchemical process of turning pure thought into the code of Bitcoin, Hero of the Unknown Face depicts the external battle to defend that discovery against the old world’s dying structures. Together, they tell the story of the revolution from its conceptual birth to its defiant survival in the streets.
