THE DREAMER (RED KNIGHT)
Memetikron names the underlying engine through which symbolic capital organizes reality. Within this framework, images function as economic instruments. Circulating symbols proliferate belief; belief consolidates into value; value organizes material reality.
The works presented here treat the image as a carrier. Medieval compositional forms organize contemporary scenes of capital and attention. Figures assume the geometry of market charts. Architecture renders stratification visible. In one work, incision and extraction recall the medieval removal of the "stone of madness," refigured here as a shift in perception.
Memetikron names the loop through which image shapes capital and capital reshapes reality.
In "MASTER CUTS OUT THE STONE (after Hemessen)," Nardo renders a destabilizing collision between Renaissance medical allegory and contemporary memetic warfare, appropriating Jan Sanders van Hemessen's 1550 The Village Surgeon—itself an interrogation of charlatanism wherein the extraction of the "stone of madness" reveals the physician's delusion exceeding that of his victim. Here, the depiction of smug Pepe assumes the role of surgeon, his ubiquitous visage operating as both hierophant and parasite within the digital consciousness, enacting the perpetual cycle of memetic extraction and implantation that reconfigures truth itself through viral repetition.
The artist's deliberate use of painterly simulation, mimicking the crude Photoshop aesthetics of internet image manipulation, renders the Old Master composition as corrupted file. The inclusion of the Bitcoin anime figure (sourced from the 2017 CCGBTCONE Counterparty asset and later weaponized in Musk's twitter profile picture, presaging Grok AI's anime incarnation) situates the work within a genealogy of speculative capital and technological mythology, where Renaissance humanist inquiry into madness finds its apotheosis in algorithmic derangement, and where the question persists: who extracts, who is extracted from, and what remains when the operation concludes?
